Lower School

Maintaining a standard of academic excellence, while providing a Christian world view in all subjects, is integral to the lower school program at LCS.

  • Class size is limited to 23 students. First grade classes have a teacher’s aide, who assists the teacher with very small group instruction, and with reading, math and the other academic areas. Second grade benfits from a part-time aide during reading time.
  • Resource room: A full-time resource room teacher gives extra help to students who may require more individualized instruction.
  • Differentiated Reading & Math instruction: We recognize that God has gifted each of our students differently. He also has created them uniquely in terms of their educational and intellectual development. At LCS, we account for these differences by having several levels of reading in each grade through the elementary years. Beginning in grade 3, we have on-grade and above-grade level math instruction. By grade 6, we increase to three math classes that range from on-grade level to pre-AP math courses.
  • Dynamic specials instructions: We see from the youngest ages that children show a “natural bent” not only in academic subjects but in the specials areas as well. We have well-developed and resourced programs in Art, Music, Media, Spanish, Computers and Physical Education. Students are able to develop their talents and interest, and become more well-rounded.
  • Constant curriculum development: A standing curriculum committee is charged with reviewing and evaluating our current curriculum. They also remain in close contact with trends in the local public & private schools. Though we do not want to cater to the latest educational “fads”, we are aware that there are constantly changing and developing innovations that we want to be aware of, and where appropriate, to apply.
