Special Programs

LCS recognizes the importance of a well-rounded education, one that includes special instruction in areas that exercise mind, body and the special talents God has given each student. We offer the following:

  • Physical Education: Boys and girls in grades 1-8 receive twice weekly instruction from skilled PE instructors in sports such as soccer, basketball, lacrosse, gymnastics, track and field, as well as physical fitness. Each year students show their gymnastic talents at the Gym Show, participate in a Sports Day of track and field events, and test for the President’s Fitness Award.
  • Intramural Sports: Boys and girls in fourth and fifth grades can participate in an after-school indoor soccer program.
  • Competitive Sports: Middle school students can try out for volleyball and basketball (girls) and soccer and basketball (boys). These teams compete with other Christian schools in the area. A cheerleading team is also available for girls.
  • Art: Students in grades 1-8 receive expert instruction in art, using a wide variety of techniques and media. Instruction in art history is incorporated into fun and exciting projects at every level. Students can participate in art competitions.
  • Music: Grades 1-8 participate in music instruction; grades 6-8 have the opportunity for group classes in piano and guitar. Instrumental music instruction is available for a range of orchestral instruments beginning in the 4th grade. All students in grades 1-5 participate in annual choral music and drama presentations.
  • Spanish: Students in grades 1-5 receive instruction in Spanish vocabulary and language; students in Middle school receive more formal Spanish instruction with emphasis on conversation, reading and grammar. Students may complete 8th grade with a high school credit for Spanish I, and most 8th graders get to use their Spanish language when they participate in the Joshua Expedition mission trip to Costa Rica.
  • Media: All students have the opportunity to visit the media center, learn about types of books and how they are filed in a library, and check books out to take home for pleasure reading or research projects.
  • Computer: Students in grades 2-8 receive instruction in computers, including Windows programs, research and internet browsing and safety. In grades 4-8, classroom projects integrate the use of computer lab skills.
